Author: Sasha Samkova
Sasha Samkova is a painter, therapist and restorer of historical books. Originally from Bratislava, she has been living and working in Mexico since 2010. The author considers herself an emotional painter. Each of her paintings is the result of her personal therapeutic-meditation process. Her technique uses splashes of colour to create a concrete form in the form of objects or figures. The figures and objects are both visible and invisible, sometimes losing their line and merging, melting into the background. The background is not separated from the objects by a line, everything seems to emerge from it and sink into it. Everything is in motion and related to everything.
"The human body is a perfect and admirable organism, a temple of the soul"- as the painter Sasha remarks.
"When you approach my painting the splashes of colour draw you in, they constantly change, the concrete form of the figure or objects becomes more abstract. From the dialect, however, the figure takes on a more real structure and form, the patches of colour begin to blend, to unite."
Sasha Šamková visited Mexico many years ago and the country won her over and has captivated her permanently. The variety of faces, the clothing, the unbridled colour, the diversity of rituals, customs, celebrations and dances. All this became and still is the cornerstone of her admiration and never-ending Mexican inspiration. She expresses Mexico in many forms, images and storylines. It has become a part of her heart and life.
