On Friday, 22 March, a musical evening with the excellent baritone Roman Janál and the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra of Mariánské Lázně is planned.
Theworld-renowned baritone Roman Janál will play a selection from Mahler's song cycle "The Boy's Magic Horn" (Des Knaben Wunderhorn in German). This twenty-four-part folk song cycle was composed by Gustav Mahler in 1887-1896. The texts come from a collection by Clemens Brentano and Achim von Arnim, which inspired Mahler in the composition of many of his songs, including some from the cycle Songs of a Wandering Companion (Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen).
The concert will continue with Beethoven's Symphony No. 1, conducted by Mark Štilc. Symphony No. 1 in C major (Op. 21) was written by the young Beethoven in 1799-1800. It was premiered on 2 April 1800 at the Burgtheater in Vienna to great acclaim. The symphony is dedicated to Baron Gottfried van Swieten, Beethoven's patron. The influence of Mozart and Haydn is evident in the composition.
