Playful tones of clarinets in Mariánské Lázně

4.3.2024 | Events

Come and enjoy the tones of brass instruments during the subscription concert of the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra, which takes place on Friday 8 March in the Casina Social House in Mariánské Lázně. Under the direction of conductor Radek Baborák, the unforgettable works of composers Rejcha, Kramář and Czerný will be performed.

The first concert in the March schedule takes us back to the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Ouverture concertante by Antonín Rejcha, an important Czech composer and music theorist who influenced many world composers, will be the opening piece of the evening. Rejcha's contribution to French musical culture was honoured with the Legion of Honour for his work at the Paris Conservatoire.

The main part of the evening will be the Concerto for two clarinets in E flat major by František Vincenzo Kramář-Krommer. This court composer and Kapellmeister of the court chamber music in Vienna enriched the musical legacy of Viennese classicism with works for clarinet. The excellent technique and wide range of this instrument will be presented by the pair of clarinetists Petr Michalec and Kamil Tichota, members of the orchestra.

The first evening in March will conclude with the Great Symphony No. 1 by Carl Czerny, a Viennese pianist and composer known for his etudes and finger exercises for piano. This extraordinary conclusion is another gem of an evening that classical music fans cannot miss.
