On the evening of Friday 25 April, the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra invites you to a concert full of beauty and fantasy. In the elegant surroundings of the Casino Social House you will hear works by three giants of European music: Mozart, Vivaldi and Haydn.
The programme will open with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart' s Divertimento in D major - a fresh and joyful piece that the 16-year-old genius composed during a period of intensive work on the opera Lucio Silla. A musical "respite", but one that bears all the marks of his mastery.
Then comes Antonio Vivaldi's most famous work: The Four Seasons. This cycle of violin concertos is a true story without words - the music here imitates nature and human emotions with surprising accuracy and imagery. You will hear birds singing, a summer storm, the autumn harvest and the winter frost.
The evening concludes with Joseph Haydn' s Symphony No. 45 "On Leaving", which is not only musically impressive - it is also humorous. Haydn wrote it as a subtle protest against the overwork of his musicians. During the premiere, one by one the candles at the desks were extinguished and they left the stage until only one player remained. The response at court is said to have been surprisingly supportive - and the symphony famous.
