WSO: The Four Seasons

This programme will bring you interesting works by the most famous Baroque and Classical composers - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonio Vivaldi and Joseph Haydn.

What have we prepared for you?
Mozarts Divertimento in D major probably originated as a kind of musical "head-clearing", a way for Mozart
to relieve stress during busy days. He wrote it at the age of 16 at the same time as he was working on his ambitious grand opera Lucio Silla.

Haydns symphony "On Leaving" was written as a little joke for his patron at the time, Prince Esterházy. He didn't want to give his musicians the leave they asked for. During the concert they gradually extinguished the candles at their stands and tiredly left the stage.

Antonio Vivaldis Four Seasons is a groundbreaking musical cycle that introduced a completely new concept: the description and narration of a story through the abstract language of instrumental music. This soundscape depicts bubbling brooks, singing birds, a shepherd and his barking dog, buzzing flies, a storm or a frozen landscape.

Program:
● W. A. Mozart - Divertimento in D major, K. 136
● A. Vivaldi - The Four Seasons, Op. 8
● J. Haydn - Symphony No. 45 in F sharp minor "Farewell", Hob. I: 45
