"A person can do anything except run from himself."
A German author from Prague, Kafka is considered one of the greatest literary figures of the 20th century. In July 1916 he spent three weeks in Marienbad, staying at the Balmoral-Osborne with his fiancée Felice Bauer. He stayed on in town even after she left, strolling around the places where they had spent time together, eating in restaurants where they had eaten, sitting on „her“ balcony and at „her“ table and lighting his room with „her“ lamp.
„Carlsbad is a pleasant town, but Marienbad is indescribably beautiful. I should have followed my instincts a lot earlier – the plumpest people are also the cleverest. A person can lose weight anywhere without venerating the springs, but the spa experience here is really something special“.
