Royal Trail
This trail leads to the lookout spots that inspired Friedrich August II, King of Saxony who visited Mariánské Lázně in 1834 and 1835.
A recommended starting point is the Municipal Museum on Goethe Square. If you overcome the relatively steep ascent of the hill, you will be rewarded with beautiful views of Mariánské Lázně. There is a magnificent view of the 'valley of springs' from the renovated gazebo of Mescéry's lookout; the Millennium Memorial is a stone monument built at the turn of the millennium. Above the Esplanade Hotel you can admire the beauty of Mariánské Lázně from the resting place of Abbot Clements of Teplá. The next stop bears the simple name Shepherd's Resting Place. The romantic trail is 1.6km long, the second half leading through the more difficult terrain of the area known as Little Switzerland. The attractive Friedrichstein rock formation was one of Friedrich August II's favourite places.
